Husqvarna South Africa’s motocross team heads to a home race at Terra Topia’s season finale in Gauteng Saturday 14 October, with team leader Richie van der Westhuizen sitting second in both the Monster Energy South African MX1 and MX2 championships, while stand-in MX2 lad Caleb Tennant is also looking forward to close off his season in style .
“It’s crunch time at Terra Topia!” Richie van der Westhuizen explained. “I’m sitting in a strong position in second in both championships — it’s a but closer in MX1 — leader Tristan Purdon is within striking distance, but I’m on even points with David Goosen so that’s going to be a really tough fight and I can’t wait to give it my all.
“MX2 will be a bit more of a challenge — David has a fair advantage there, but it’s never over till the fat lady sings. “My Husqvarnas are race ready, I have been working hard on the bikes and at the gym and it’s up to me to make it happen — let’s do this!”
Caleb Tennant is meanwhile intent on delivering solid results aboard the other factory MX2 Husqvarna as he continues to stand in for the injured Maddy Malan. “I’ve been getting stronger as the season has progressed and I’m getting to understand the needs of a factory rider, so let’s hope that we can end off in style,” Capetonian Caleb admitted. “Special thanks once again to Husqvarna SA for the chance to race as part of the team — it has been a brilliant opportunity!”
“The 2017 Monster Energy South African Motocross Championship comes to a head at Terra Topia outside Johannesburg this weekend,” Husqvarna South Africa brand manager Fred Fensham concluded. “Our lads have scored well through the season and Richie arrives in second position in both championships and Caleb is ready to deliver too.
“Also let’s see if Niel van der Vyfer can go 14 wins out of 14 starts for an unbeaten season and how the likes of Anthony Raynard’s season ends in MX1 & MX2 — it’s going to be a great weekend all-round!”
